Tova uses the black horse to some what symbolize jeff. Black is the color always associated with death. Since the black horse, is also a beautiful creature, it might be just another vision of jeff, since he is dieing. He is also showen as being a special. They symbolize each other, which is gets you thinking of how he portaid this character.
