Porters Creek Manway
Smoky Mountains
 
An unmaintained trail in the Smoky Mountains that starts directly behind CS 31 and ends at the Appalachian Trail at Dry Sluice Gap. This hike will start promptly on Saturday morning, 9/7 at CS 31. (Please note that CS 31 is 3.7 miles from the Greenbrier Trailhead.) For those who wish to DAYHIKE (in and out on Saturday) this challenging hike, it will require a return vehicle at Newfound Gap. For those who wish to BACKPACK (in Friday evening, and out Sunday morning) this challenging hike, we will stop at Charlies Bunion, follow the AT past IceWater Shelter, and then use the Boulevard Trail, pass over Mt LeConte, and utilize the Brushy Mountain/Porters Creek Trails to return to Greenbrier. Overnights would include CS 31 on Friday evening, and LeConte Shelter on Saturday evening.

Sipsey Wilderness

Directions : Take I 65 to Moulton Al. turn West on hwy 24, go to Hwy 33 and turn South. Follow hwy 33 south through town and then though wren. ( caution light at wren, Alabama Trading post is on the left. good place to get supplies. ) Follow 33 South up the mountain and to Hwy 6/60 turn West on 6/60 and follow it to the sipsey river. Just before crossing the river turn left into the picnic area and park in the parking lot before crossing the river. We will leave the parking lot and go up turkey foot creek. We will pass waterfalls and bluff shelter before going cross country back to Sipsey. We will go up Falls creek and possibly over to the Champion Popular.We will return Sunday at a time that is conveniant for everone.

Roan Mountain from the US 19E side, and end at Carvers Gap
 
This hike will start promptly on Saturday morning, 10/19. We will overnight on the area known as Big Hump. (No water at site, but GREAT views). (Please note that this overnight backpack will require a car shuttle.)
