There will be no tutoring during those hours; all sessions from 11am-2pm that day will be cancelled. Please drop by to learn more about the LRC. | Director’s
Message The College Reading Skills Program (CRSP) had a busy winter quarter. The Book Club read and discussed Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, and viewed the film adaptation. Our winter quarter Mentor Meeting on Stress and Time Management was led by Dr. Dao Nguyen from Counseling and Psychological Services. In honor of Read Across America, we hosted a book drive and donated the books to a nearby elementary school. The program sponsored students to attend the play, Mother Courage and Her Children, which was performed by Cal Poly’s theatre students. In conjunction with the Learning Resource Center, CRSP hosted an Open House on March 2nd. Finally, the program awarded supplemental grant aid to a total of 36 students! I would like to
acknowledge the hard work and juggling act of the program’s two
advisors. Robert (Bob) Matranga kept busy working as a full-time advisor,
teaching a section of English 099, and taking a course at Cal Poly.
He has been hired to teach a study skills course for the Upward Bound
Summer Program and in August, he will be traveling to China to teach
English. Cynthia (Cindy) Greco also worked as a full-time advisor and
took two courses at Cal Poly. She will teach two sections of a literature
course for Upward Bound this summer. Congratulations to Bob and Cindy
on their accomplishments and we thank them for their contributions to
the development of the program. We also have a couple of personal announcements. Rachel Dominguez’s family has grown. She has a new grandson! Jayson Patrick was born on Thursday, March 9th weighing 6 lbs 8 oz and measuring 18 inches long. My family will also be growing. I will be on maternity leave beginning April 15th and returning in the fall. We look forward to a lively spring quarter. We hope to see some familiar faces returning to the program as well as meeting and working with new participants! |

Book Club Change of Dates We invite you to join our spring Book Club. The Club has selected Love by Toni Morrison as its novel for this quarter. In our winter newsletter, we published meeting dates for the spring Book Club. Two of the dates have changed. The Book Club will meet in the CRSP office (13B) on Thursday, April 13th, 27th, and May 11 from 12 to 12:50. Feel free to bring your lunch. Snacks will be provided. |
