Help - Finding SAE Publications

SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers) publishes books, papers, and standards on automotive and aerospace engineering. Books from SAE are cataloged and can easily be found using the Library Catalog. Finding standards and technical papers is a little more complicated. Resources available in the Library include:

Cover Image of the SAE HandbookSAE Handbook , Reference TL151.S62
A compilation of the SAE Ground Vehicle Standards, also known as “J-Reports” as the standard numbers all begin with J, for example, J585 Front Fog Lamps. The Library does not have the SAE Aerospace Standards or the Aerospace Materials Specifications (AMS). If you need one of these standards, contact the Engineering Librarian.

SAE Technical Papers, Microfiche TL1.S6
The Library has a microfiche collection of SAE papers published 1965 - 1998.
To obtain papers published after 1998:

The easiest way to request a SAE paper is with the paper number. It will also be helpful to have the author and/or title. This information is easy to find on the SAE website – look for the SAE Store and search your topic. Paper numbers start with the year of publication, for example:
