THE UNIVERSITY: California State Polytechnic University , Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) is one of 23 campuses in The California State University system. It is located about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles , and is in one of the most dynamic economic and cultural regions in the country. The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W. K. Kellogg, located within an hour's drive of beaches, mountains and desert. The university currently has an ethnically diverse student population of about 19,000. Students are enrolled in 65 baccalaureate and 20 master's degree programs with approximately 1,200 tenured, tenure-track, and temporary faculty members. The university is committed to diversifying its faculty and staff and has made educational equity one of its highest priorities. The mission of the university is to advance learning and knowledge by linking theory and practice in all disciplines, and to prepare students for lifelong learning, leadership, and careers in a changing, multicultural world.
THE COLLEGE: The College of Business Administration (CBA), with over 4,500 students, is one of the largest business schools both within the CSU systems and the region. Accredited by AACSB under its new standards, the CBA strives to become the public college of choice in southern California for the region's students seeking degrees in business by offering a technology-driven, polytechnic international education. The CBA emphasizes Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing approach to better prepare students to ‘hit the ground running' upon graduation. This is accomplished through distinct career tracks, specialized coursework and internships. Our graduates are sought by industry for their problem-solving abilities, technological skills, and work ethic. CBA is comprised of six departments: Accounting, Computer Information Systems; Finance, Real Estate and Law; International Business and Marketing; Management and Human Resources; and Technology and Operations Management. Many departments have achieved national recognition for their outstanding programs and faculty. Over 400 graduate students are enrolled in the College's on and off-campus MBA programs, and in our unique MSBA program. Approximately 100 tenure-track faculty and 30 lecturers are employed by the college.
THE POSITION: The Dean reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, serves as a member of the Academic Deans' Council, and works closely with others in Academic Affairs. The Dean heads a College leadership team consisting of Department Chairs, two Associate Deans, and staff. The Dean fosters an environment conducive to academic quality, collegiality, innovation and open discussion, and an appreciation for ethnic, cultural, and social diversity. Within the College, the Dean promotes collaboration, team building and active involvement with the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the surrounding community. It is expected that the Dean will create a council of community and education leaders, and provide strategies to insure innovation in teaching and learning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The Dean is responsible for the fiscal and personnel management, strategic planning, fund development and advancement, and encouraging diversity and educational equity in the CBA. The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and works closely with other academic deans, directors and department chairs, and with personnel in Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. The Dean is expected to provide visionary leadership to promote and foster research and scholarship in an institution committed to teaching. It is expected that the Dean will continue to support the needed technology to prepare students for a global business environment. The College is in the process of raising funds for a new building. The Dean is expected to commit significant time and resources to this fund-raising effort. The Dean is expected to promote and support curricular innovation and international programs. A critical role of the Dean is in building productive long-term relationships among students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni and the surrounding community. The Dean will interact with a council of industry and community leaders, and provide strategies to promote innovation in teaching and learning. The Dean will provide the necessary leadership to ensure continued accreditation by AACSB.

APPOINTMENT DATE/SALARY: The University seeks to fill this position by January 5, 2009 or by a date mutually agreed upon between the University and the applicant. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position includes a very attractive benefits package.
