2008 Cal Poly Pomona Faculty Summer Institute for Online and Blended Course Development

Request for Proposals

Among the criteria on which the evaluation and selection of proposals will be based are:

• Quality of the proposal
• Impact of the proposal on meeting student curricular needs
• Applicant’s interest in and commitment to online teaching
• Support from the applicant’s department and college, indicated by the signatures of Deans and Department Chairs.

How the application process works:

1. Complete the Faculty Summer Institute for Online and Blended Course Development application form. (Download a Word file of Application Form).
2. Bring the completed application to your Department Chair and Dean for their signatures on the Statement of Support.
3. Submit your completed application with appropriate signatures to Hye Ok Park, Director of I&IT Learning by the deadline: 12:00 noon, Friday, May 23, 2008. Deliver applications to the MediaVision front desk at Building 98-B1-262.

The Summer Institute will meet for a week-long workshop held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The first Institute session is being offered during the week of June 16th, 2008. The second session will be during the week of July 28, 2008. Attendance will be limited to 20 faculty to achieve an optimal effectiveness.  The Workshop Agenda will be tailored to meet the specific project needs and instructional goals of the participants.

Workshop topics include:

• Teaching and learning strategies & pedagogy
• Learner characteristics
• How to prepare and plan for teaching an online course
• Online course management in Blackboard Learning Management System
• How to build effective learning communities
• How to develop and use effective assessment strategies
• How to use interactive learning techniques
• Creating learning objects and modules
• Creating streaming audio and video
• How to create accessible course materials in compliance with ATI/ADA
• How to access and integrate digital library resources
• Copyright issues and compliance
