Login Questions

Q. Why am I unable to log in to Blackboard?

A. When logging in, be sure to use your BroncoName. Your BroncoName is the first part of your email address. For example, if your email is billybronco@csupomona.edu, your BroncoName is billybronco.

Your BroncoPassword is the password you chose when you claimed your account.

If you have forgotten your BroncoPassword, see the Password Reset page (link opens in a new window). If you receive a message stating, "Password reset questions have not been configured for this account," submit a Help Desk ticket or stop by the I&IT Help Desk.

The I&IT Help Desk is located in Building 1, Room 100. It is open Monday - Thursday, 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM and Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (excluding state holidays).

Q. I am a student registered via the Open University program. Why can't I log in to Blackboard?

A. As soon as you have the professor’s signature on the Open University Petition and Prerequisite Form, you must submit these documents to the College of Extended University (CEU) in building 220-C and pay the fees. Once the CEU receives the forms and payment, you will be entered into the system.

If this is your first time enrolling as an Open University student, you will need to claim your Bronco account by visiting https://win.webdev.csupomona.edu/idm/user_claim.aspx (link opens in a new window).

The day after you claim your Bronco account, inform your professor and ask him/her to manually enroll you into the Blackboard course.

Submit a Help Desk ticket if you have any further questions about your Bronco account.

Technical Issues

Q. When I try to upload or submit an assignment, I receive a "Please enter a valid file" message. I have checked the file and it looks valid to me. What is the cause with this error message?

A.When using Firefox 3 browser, the students who are trying to upload an assignment file will receive a "Please enter a valid file" message. While this issue will be fixed in the newer Blackboard version, a workaround can be found at http://www.shsu.edu/~ucs_www/webdev/blackboard/blog/2008/07/blackboard-and-firefox-3-assignment.html

Alternatively, you can also use Internet Explorer of Firefox.

Q. Why can't I see my course?

A. There are a couple of possible reasons why you may not see your course.

  1. Your professor may not be using Blackboard.
  2. If you know that your professor is using Blackboard, it is possible that your professor has not made the course available within Blackboard yet. Ask the professor when he/she will make the course available.

Q. I just added a Blackboard course. Why can't I see it?

A. A daily synchronization is run between Blackboard and BroncoDirect to update the student roster in Blackboard and to accommodate students who have added or dropped a course. If you enrolled in a course through BroncoDirect and cannot see the course, wait until 8 AM the following morning before checking again. You will automatically be added to your Blackboard course.  If you are registered via an Open University program, see the “I am a student registered via Open University program” FAQ.

Q. I am a student registered via the Open University program. Why can't I see my course when I log into Blackboard?

A. Your professor may not have enrolled you into the course. Ask your professor to manually enroll you into the Blackboard course.

Q. Which files can I upload?

A. Each course receives a 50 MB course quota by default. This course quota is used to accommodate students' assignments, tests and files.

Q. Why am I receiving a "Quota Exceeded" message?

A. Each course receives a 50 MB course quota by default. This course quota is used to accommodate students' assignments, tests and files. Each faculty member has an additional 20 MB available to accommodate his/her own files, such as syllabi, assignment outlines, PowerPoint presentations and/or videos.

It is possible that the storage quota has been exceeded. Contact your professor and let him/her know that the course quota has been exceeded. Your professor should then contact the Help Desk by submitting a Help Desk ticket.

Past Courses

Q. My older courses are not in the Blackboard and I need to contest my grade. What can I do?

A. If you took the course less than a year ago, you can simply ask your professor to make the grades available to you by making the course available. However, if you took the course over a year ago, the course has been automatically archived. You will need to ask your professor to restore the course before either of you can access it.
