Lost and Overdue Fees

Lost and overdue fees are accumulative. Any fees from $0.15 to $4.99 will have no affect on your patron or university record. However, once they reach $5.00 or more, they must be paid prior to checking out or renewing materials.

Fees must be paid in full, there are no partial payments.  Fees are payable by check, credit card, or online by logging into “My Library Account”CASH NOT ACCEPTED!

Link+:  Lost book fees are forwarded to the owning institution. There are no refunds for Link+ books once a patron has paid for the book.

Lost Books

$10 Billing Fee (NON-REFUNDABLE) and a
$13.30 Processing fee (NON-REFUNDABLE)
PLUS the Replacement fee (estimation varies; minimum fee is $10.00) for each book

LOST BOOK REFUNDS
Only the replacement fee is refundable, minus a $6.60 processing fee, if the book is returned in good condition and within one-year of payment date.

Request refunds at the Library Circulation Desk.

Lost Materials:
Journals, Professor Owned Reserves

$25 Billing Fee (NON-REFUNDABLE) and a
$13.30 Processing fee (NON-REFUNDABLE)
PLUS the Replacement fee (estimation varies; minimum fee is $10.00)

LINK+

Once an item is 15 days overdue, a bill is issued for $115.00. If a LINK+ item is lost, you must pay $115.00 replacement cost. Patrons who return items in damaged condition are also assessed $115.00

PAYING YOUR FEES

You may pay your fees online (logging into “My Library Account”), in person (come to the Library 2nd floor Circulation Desk) or by mail (enclose a check make payable to):

ALL FEES STRICTLY ENFORCED

There is no grace period. However, there is a short period of time between the due date of an item and the date fines will be assessed. This time period varies according to the type of materials and should not be considered a grace period.

Fees will NOT be waived for any reasons, e.g.,:
  • Not checking on-campus E-Mail for library notices or were never received due to US Postal Service.
  • Failure to notify the library of an address change.
  • Materials were lent to someone else and she/he returned it late or failed to return it.
  • Materials returned via the US Mail and it was received late or failed to arrive.
  • Materials were returned to another library and it was not received by the due date or failed to arrive.
  • Car or bag was stolen with library material(s) inside.
  • Wallet was stolen and someone else checked out materials on your card.
  • Not checking an items due date.

UNPAID FEES: THE PENALTIES

Failure to respond to a Library BILLING NOTICE may result in your account being sent to a collection agency and/or to the State Franchise Tax Board. Failure to pay your fees may also mean a suspension of borrowing privileges and / or holds on your transcripts, grades, diploma, or registration.

BILLING PROCEDURES

  1. As a COURTESY, the Library will send an Overdue notice to patrons by E-Mail or by mail to the primary address, if no E-mail address is provided. Patrons are responsible for the date the materials are due.

    If a notice is received, please bring back materials to the Library. Fees will be assessed at the time the materials are returned.
     
  2. If there is no response to the first courtesy notice within 14 days, the overdue material will move into the replacement billing cycle. A BILLING NOTICE will be sent that includes:
     a. The replacement fee that cover the cost of the item.
     b. A $13.30 processing fee per item (non-refundable if paid or replaced).
     c. A $10.00 or $25.00 (depending on the item borrowed) fine per item.
     
  3. If borrowed item(s) has been recalled and it is not returned, overdue fees will be charged. Borrowing privileges will be suspended until the item is returned.
     
  4. Failure to respond to a Library BILLING NOTICE may result in your account being to sent to a collection agency (non-Cal Poly Pomona students) and/or to the State Franchise Tax Board (Cal Poly Pomona students).
