| Search by | Choose the type of data you wish to search for. "Name" uses the Search type, described below. "Email address" matches the user name (you can leave off the "@csupomona.edu" if you want). "Telephone #" matches the four-digit extension, the seven-digit number, or the full ten-digit number (with or without the initial "1"). "Location", "Department", and "Title" match any portion of the respective data. |

| Restrict to | If you leave all the boxes unchecked, the entire database will be searched. By checking a box, you restrict the search to that category of people. You can check multiple boxes. |
| Search type | In the exact search, you must enter either the last name, the first name, or the complete name, exactly as it appears in the database. Sometimes a name will appear in the database in an unexpected way, and this search won't find it. The partial search is the recommended default. You can enter a name or part of a name, as long as you spell it correctly. (Technical note: this is a wildcard search, and is also used for "Location", "Department", and "Title".) The fuzzy search is useful if you don't know how to spell a name. It uses a variation of a method that finds words that sound similar (in English). Sometimes it won't find the name you are looking for at all, so only use it if the "partial" method fails, or if you know you are misspelling the name. |
