Managing Email Spam

Client Configuration Guide: Mac OS X Mail (Mac)

  1. Make sure you have completed the basic setup of SpamAssassin
  2. Open the Mail application
  3. From the "Mailbox" menu, select "New Mailbox..." within your desired account
  4. Give the folder a name (i.e. Spam)
  5. From the "Mail" menu, select "Preferences..."
  6. Select the "Rules" icon
  7. Select the "Create Rule" button
  8. Within the "Description:" field, type X-Spam-Flag
  9. Within the Criteria area, select the "From" drop-down box and select "Expert..."
  10. Within the "Header:" text box, type X-Spam-Flag
  11. Click the "Add Header" button
  12. Click "OK"
  13. Within the Criteria area, select the "From" drop-down box and select "X-Spam-Flag"
  14. Verify the second drop-down box is set to "Contains"
  15. Within the text box, type YES
  16. Check the box "Transfer to mailbox:"
  17. Use the drop-down box to select your newly created folder (i.e. Spam)
  18. Click "OK"
  19. Close the "Mail Preference" box
