LCT Initiative: Faculty Laptops

The second component of the Learning-Centered Technology Initiative is the distribution of laptops to individual tenured and tenure-track faculty members.

Through fall 2007 more than 530 laptops were delivered.

Eligible faculty chose a Dell laptop or an Apple Macintosh MacBook Pro.

If faculty require assistance in choosing which laptop would best meet their needs, they may contact their college tech (http://www.csupomona.edu/~ehelp/techs.html) or Marcy Gates (mgates@csupomona.edu).

New tenure-track faculty starting in Academic Year 2008-2009 will choose one of two laptops, either a Windows laptop or a Macintosh. Preliminary specifications for each are listed below. Please note that specifications may change slightly at any time. The new tenure-track faculty member's choice must be approved by their dean and their college technical support specialist. Windows laptops distributed to new faculty will come with a keyboard, mouse, port replicator, tote bag and a security cable lock. They also have a flat screen monitor and a network cable. For further information on the sign-up process, contact Faculty Affairs.

Faculty who received their laptops from 2004 through early 2006 will receive upgraded models in late summer 2008 based on the specifications below.

Software

Application software will be loaded by the College Technicians, who will apply campus-licensed software as appropriate for each faculty member. The electronic mail program will be configured at the time of distribution, with the approval of the college technician so that the faculty member's electronic mail matches the usage preferred and supported by the college technician(s).
